This goddess, usually associated with the dark Moon, can be called upon to lend her guidance in the understanding of and the use of divination tools. To call on her, light purple and black candles. Spell for Prophetic Dreams

Here is another spell from the my overflowing draft folder. I think this may have come from Llwellyn's spell a day cache of spells but I am not sure. I thank whoever wrote it and ask all of you to also give thanks for the creative force behind it. This seems like quite a simple but powerful spell to work. Blessings on it's 'working' for you. During sleep, the connection between the conscious mind and the unconscious mind is strongest. Dream memories, impressions, and feelings often yield the information that directs you to your goal. Write your latest dream on a small piece of paper. Place this paper in a pouch with an amethyst or some mugwort. Place the pouch on your pillow, and say:

As I dream tonight, this spell burns bright.
Paths of manifestation are revealed in morning light.

Before rising from bed, record any impressions on paper. Be alert for any directions that you may receive over the coming days.

A Simple Ritual to Gain Help Making a Decision

Another spell found in my draft folder. I really like this one because first you have to think out and articulate your options on paper and then you are physically involved with the process of deciding in the chanting, spinning and throwing of the compass. May the God/dess be with you as your decisions unfold. So Mote it Be.

When faced with a difficult decision, write your options out on paper and go to an open space. Use a hiking compass to place these choices or paths directionally around you; in other words, align each option with a direction: north, south, east, and west. Keep in mind elemental alignments and their common occult associations. If there are more than four options, place them between the cardinal directions. Once everything is laid before you, spin around in a circle with increasing speed and chant the following:

Circle round, quarterly bound
I travel now lost; obscure is this ground
Circle round, quarterly bound
Awaken my magic, stir all around
Circle round, quarterly bound
Let me be found
Let me be found
Let me be found

Repeat once for each option you have before you. On the last line of the final round, fall to the ground and toss the compass into the air. Where it lands will provide you with answers. If you have fewer than four options and the compass lands in an unassociated direction, keep in mind that you might not have all the information necessary to determine a path yet unknown forces may still be at work. The only thing to do then is exercise patience, focus on the present moment, and allow further options to naturally materialize.

Ritual for Releasing Negativity

Again not my spell, but one I plan to do on the next full moon. Blessings on releasing the negative from your life. So Mote it Be.

This is a very powerful banishing spell to pull worry, fear, bad vibes, unpaid bills, (and just about anything that contributes to negativity) out of your home and out of your life. It can be done anytime during the full or waning moon.

Supplies needed:
A cheap plastic planter (or container) about the size of a tub of Margarine
Potting soil
A brown egg
A brown marker or crayon
Candle (brown, red, or white)
Incense
Tablespoon of brown sugar
Water
Three cloves of garlic

Instructions:

If you are using a margarine or other plastic container, punch a couple of holes in the bottom of it for drainage.
Fill it about 1/3 full of potting soil.
With the brown marker or crayon, write on the egg the things that you want to banish from your life and your home. For example: unpaid bills, financial instability, worry, bad luck, etc.
You can write as many things as will fit.
Light the candle and the incense
Pass the egg through the smoke (from the incense).
As you do this, say:
Nothing can stand
Nothing can stay
By fire and air
All worries away

Now pass the egg across, through, over, or around the candle flame. Be careful not to burn your fingers.
As you do this, say:
Nothing can stand
Nothing can stay
By fire and air
All worries away

Now walk around your house carrying the egg. As you go into each room imagine that all the negative energy, all the worry, all the fear, all the things you have written on that egg are being pulled out of the environment and are being sucked into the egg in your hand.
Take your time, don't rush the process.
Imagine also that any thing within your own self that might be contributing to the things you want banished are also being sucked into the egg.
When you have walked through each room, and when you have cleared your own energy, press the egg GENTLY into the planter (or container) with the soil in it.
Sprinkle it with brown sugar to sweeten the energy.
Cover it completely with the potting soil, filling the container all the way up.
As you do this, say:
Nothing can stand
Nothing can stay
By water and earth
All worries away

Pour water into the planter slowly, being careful not to flood it and at the same time making sure that the soil is thoroughly moistened.
As you do this, say:
Nothing can stand
Nothing can stay
By water and earth
All worries away

If necessary, add more soil so that your egg is well covered
Now press the three cloves of garlic into the wet soil and wait for them to sprout.
This may take several days.
The garlic will absorb and disperse any negativity.
When the garlic has sprouted, take the container to a grave yard. Set it down wherever seems appropriate, and walk away without looking back.

Full Moons and their Meanings

In many religions in early times, the moon became a symbol, and even the home of the many gods and goddesses that dwelt in the otherworlds.

Today, based on many centuries of practice and understanding of the divine, the pagan religion maintain a strong side with the moon and all her phases. Each phase of the moon has its own individual designation of the triple goddess.

The waxing moon. The growth into a full moon is termed as the maiden.

The full moon is designated as the mother because of its fullness, power and it is representative of fertility.

The waxing moon is known as the crone or wise woman, she is represented as the aged mature being, rich with knowledge and experience.

The mother.... the maiden.... the crone

Not all pagan beliefs see the moon in the same light. There are some who look upon the Moon is a bad omen, or say that no magic will be performed on the dark or waning moon. They are of the opinion that the new Moon is a sign of changes, and even of bad luck.

But as the moon has her light and dark side so do we all! To tap into both sides and to achieve a balance, one must embrace all aspects of the goddess or moon phases.

Many Goddesses were associated with the moon in ancient beliefs, and for some still are!

Diana, Isis and others were most known for the fall or waxing phase of the moon.

Cerridwen, Hecate and the Hag were known as symbols of the dark Moon or waning phase of the moon.

In some beliefs and traditions the waxing to the full moon was ideal for magical activities, the waning phase was ideal for banishing meditation and divination. The new Moon was not to be used for anything.. a time of rest and reflection.

The Moon is a powerful symbol in the sacred tarot also. The moon stands for deceit, occult forces or psychic ability, and can also indicate secrets or hidden facts which are coming forward or overcoming one's own problems by using one's own innate psychic abilities.

In astrology, the moon also has a strong impact on the other signs in which one was born.

In some societies the stages of the moon are taken into account during planting and harvesting of crops, In our own western society this was so up to perhaps 60 years ago! Perhaps something that we should consider exploring again.

Witches Bottle 3

Again this is not my spell, but I did do this one. I can not say I had great luck with it but I am going to try it again when I can give it more time and concentration. I must say it was interesting gathering the ingredients for performing it. Wishing you Blessings as you perform this ritual/spell. So Mote it Be.

A witches’ bottle is an ancient protection spell of great power. This is my version. I would recommend that anyone who is pursuing a magickal path make one to protect against any thought-forms, entities, spirits, demons, or simply negative energies that are bound to be encountered along the way. After charging, the bottle becomes an energetic trap for any force that intends to cause you harm. It is aligned to your energy-field through the use of your own DNA as well as symbolic powers that imprison and then transform harmful energy into something useful.

Items Used:
a small to medium sized jar or bottle (a large spice bottle works well)
sage, or other purifying herb such as rosemary
a black candle
sea salt
parchment paper (or other “nice” stationary)
dragon’s blood ink
rusty nails, broken glass, needles, other sharp objects
dead bugs, some of your favorite food nicely molding, other “gross” things
some of your hair, finger or toenail clippings
some of your semen or menstrual blood
some of your urine
a handful of earth, or potting soil
a black cotton cloth

Perform this spell alone at night. On a night before the dark moon (women will need to adjust the timing to coincide with their menstrual cycle) gather your items together to perform this spell. Ground and center. Mark a circle on the ground around you with the sea salt, moving clockwise beginning and ending in the North. Burn your herb as an incense and allow the smoke to waft over you and your area. Hold the bottle over the smoke and make sure that some gets inside it. Light the black candle saying:

“From the darkness I conjure light
from the light I summon force,
from the force I invoke the power
to trap that which intends me harm.”

On the parchment write the following with Dragon’s Blood Ink:

Your full name (your magickal name will do if you identify with it.)
Your birthdate. (Month, day, year, and time if possible)
The symbol for your astrological sun, moon, and rising signs.
Any other symbol that you feel represents the real “you”.

Now smear some of your semen or menstrual blood onto the paper. Draw a circle around the whole thing and draw a pentagram over it, feeling that to do so is an act of power; that when the star is completed you have erected a field of protection around you. Roll up the parchment and place inside the bottle.

Now begin to fill the bottle with the other items: your hair and clippings, nails, glass, bugs, etc. You will want to fill the bottle about halfway. Say:

“Insects from beneath a rock,
needles, nails rusting fast,,
Keep all harm inside and locked,
within this dungeon made of glass.”

Now fill the jar as far as possible with your urine, which is from your body in the act of release. This will provide a link for the energy to follow into the jar and remain. Add the handful of earth, feeling it’s connection to the planet and it’s ability to transform waste into fertility. Add three pinches of sea salt to the mixture. Cork the bottle or attach the lid and seal the edges with drippings from the black candle. Hold the bottle in both hands before you and in front of the candlelight so that the light shines through the bottle. Feel the power of the candle permeate your bottle, charging it with power and purpose. Say:

“I charge you, bottle, to trap all harm.
Keep me safe away from danger.
Inside darkness calls to darkness,
to be carried below
into the grave.”

Take three deep breaths and exhale all your stress, worry, doubt fear, pain, etc. into the bottle. On the last breath “hear” the power in your breath ring and resonate with the bottle. Wrap the bottle carefully in the black cloth and open your circle in the normal way. Go outside to bury the bottle in a place where it will not be disturbed. Should the bottle ever be disturbed or broken, rest assured that the negativity will not then return to you as it has already been neutralized by the salt and the handful of earth, but the bottle will cease functioning. If you end up burying it in a place that you cannot check up on its well-being, you then may want to perform this spell at different intervals, perhaps once a year on a certain date. This of course is up to you.

What to do: Find a quiet place and set your books or materials you need to study up. Sit down and relax. Start to take deep, slow, steady breaths. Focus on taking deep, slow, steady breaths for a few minutes. After this visualize the very Air around you start to shimmer with light. As you breathe these deep, slow, steady breaths visualize that you also bring in this shimmering Air into your lungs and throughout your body. Keep breathing until your very being is shimmering with the same light. When you are finished open your eyes and start reviewing your materials confident that you are completely focused.

Ritual for Mental Clarity

Sometimes in the midst of a situation, our emotions take over and we cannot make good decisions. To rediscover your mental clarity, gather together cinnamon incense for good luck, clarity, and communication; a bowl of water; a white candle; and a small black candle. Light the cinnamon incense and breathe in its spicy smell. Hold the bowl of water and pour all of your emotions into it. Let your feelings flow. Light the black candle so the light is reflected into the bowl and say, “Banish the bad, the ugly, and the distracting,” three times. Then light the white candle on the opposite side of the bowl and say, “In this light all good remain,” three times. Breathe deeply until all the negativity flows into the black candle. Let it burn completely away. Pour the water out into Mother Earth and bury the remains of the black candle there. Keep the white candle and burn it when you need clear thinking. When the white candle is nearly gone, transfer the good feelings into another candle.

Another ritual from my 'draft folder', and again I do not know where I found this at but I really like it. Plan on doing this as soon as possible. When I do I will add a note to let you all know how it went. Blessings.

Spread out patterned cloth of purple, white, and green, and on it place a white candle for clarity and purity of purpose and a purple candle for enhancing mental acuity and psychic powers. Mix together nutmeg with sage to promote psychic ability and clear, pure thought, and place a small dish of the herbs on the cloth. In the center, place your divination tools. Include any deities and symbols important to you, or that you want to connect to your divination work. Begin by humming a long single tone while envisioning a clear white light around the cloth. Light the candles, calling in the spirits that you wish to witness this blessing. Pick up your divination tool and hold it to your heart. Cast your awareness to your feet, and envision the energy of the Earth coming up through your feet, through your body to your heart. Envision this Earth energy now mingled with yours, coming out through your heart and into your tool. Feel this energy surround your hands and the tool and quietly allow the energy to permeate them. Place the tool in the herbs and cover it while visualizing clarity, purity of purpose, and psychic knowledge and wisdom. Next, pass the tool over the purple candle and envision the tool opening and communicating deep wisdom. Then pass the tool over the white candle while envisioning purity and clarity. Hold the tools to your heart again, breathing deeply, to create a vital connection with you. When you are finished, extinguish the candles. Wrap the tool in the cloth, place it on top of the dish of herbs, and leave it on your altar for three days. After that, unwrap it and use the tool with honor, wisdom, and deep knowledge

A Spell for A Clear Decision

Light an orange candle sprinkled with rosemary or lobelia, and have an Emperor tarot image on hand. Visualize your ability to, piece by piece, discern and prioritize the mental jumble intended to bring a wise decision. Rid yourself of the thoughts that are obviously unimportant, keep those you know are relevant, and visualize a “holding bin” for those thoughts that need more research. After researching and deciding to keep or discard the “holding bin” thoughts, begin to delve into the “keep” thoughts. See yourself easily assimilating and prioritizing these pieces of information, just as the pieces of a puzzle form a picture. A decision is easily reached without later regret. Know you can repeat this learned ability at any time in the future.

Note: A Capricorn Moon provides focus and the ability to push away everything that is not relevant when making a decision of great importance so you may wish to do this when the moon is in Capricorn.

Banishing Poverty with Knot Binding Spell

Each full moon holds a little extra special meaning to those who work with magik. It represents the universe in brilliant glory, wholeness or completeness. A wonderful time to work on your own personal spiritual lessons, growth and enlightenment. But as with each phase of the moon, each cycle of the full moon also contains it's own special energy. Aligning your intentions with these energies can also enhance your magikal work.

Ages ago, cultures around the world kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred. Today we have the advantage of aligning our energies with the cultures we're drawn to, or to the perspective our tradition follows. So if you're of a European tradition, or Norse or Native American tradition; you can pick and choose the name set that you feel most connected to.

There are many reasons for different name sets. Cultures, regions of the world, differences in weather, the timing of seasonal changes (such as winter arriving earlier in the north than in the south) and so on.

While names from the Farmer's Almanac were largely in use in England and the Celtic lands, these are not the only names in use in those areas.

Many people think all Native Americans followed the same traditions and implemented the same names and significance across the board to aspects of life. While there is a large similarity between American tribes and nations, they are not all the same. The Cherokee Nation held different names in part because they governed over the lands of the south from what we know as Virginia south to Florida.

While you're doing your own research you might find additional name sets. Try to verify the source of those sets, were they used in a specific region or Kingdom, perhaps they were used in the north, while you might find other sets used in the same culture in the south. Were they Druidic vs. Shamanistic? Or were they influenced by pantheons or altered by other religions that invaded a land and began a conversion. All these events will have an affect on cultural names.

The following is a list of a few of these cultural name sets. I'll try to add more as I come across them during research. This by no means is meant to be an inclusive list.

Thomas's Old Farmers Almanac (founded in 1792).
The almanac is largely based on Europeans who came to the Americas and settled in the colonies. These names were widely used in Scotland, Ireland, England, France and most of their territories.
The Deborean Clan
The Deborean Clan is a combination of Celtic and Cherokee cultures. This name set merged names from these two cultures together either by influence or out of a desire to represent both spiritual perspectives. No one is sure when this name set was established, but it's fair to assume it began around the time the Clan itself was established between 1780 and 1800.
The Wiccan Tradition
It's fair to say that Gerald Gardner based his name set on a variety of sources. Wicca itself is a culmination of his previous participations with many craft traditions such as the Fellowship of Crotona, Ordo Temli Orientis and even the Golden Dawn had it's influence on his creation.
The Algonquin Tribes
The Native American nations from New England on west to Lake Superior had their list of full moon names.

January ~ Hunger moon
During this month the wolves once roamed the countryside, thus suggesting the name wolf moon. In cold and temperate climates of the Northern Hemisphere, it was difficult to find food during January, thus the name hunger moon. This is a good time for planning your year from a spiritual perspective. What do you want to accomplish this year. What do you "hunger" for? Set some goals and plan how to achieve them.

February ~ Snow moon
In certain parts of the world, snow is usually the deepest in this month, thus the name snow moon. This is a good time to focus your magik on home, hearth and family.

March ~ Sap or worm moon
Because sap rises in March, this full moon is called the sap moon. The ground softens during this month, and worms begin to burrow out of the ground, thus the name worm moon. This is a good time for healing magik. Think of the sap as the blood running through your veins carrying health and healing.

April ~ Pink moon
Many flowers turn pink and bloom in April, thus the name pink moon. This is a good time for working on potential relationships, or heading off problems in an existing one.

May ~ Flower moon
Because many flowers bloom in May, after the April downpours, May's moon is called the flower moon. This is a good time for working on commitments, both in spirit and love.

June ~ Rose moon
Because strawberries bloom in June, this month's moon is the strawberry moon. Also, the French call this moon la lune rose, which translates into English as "the rose moon." This is a good time for taking stock of the year. It's the mid-way point, so review what you've accomplished and what's left to do. Hopefully you'll find reasons for a celebration and put those strawberries and roses to good use.

July ~ Buck moon
Bucks (moose & deer) grow their first antlers during this month, thus the name buck moon. This is a very masculine moon, so it's a good time to work on the physical things in your life. Either physical in body, or things that some physical attention, like fixing the loose handle on the kitchen drawer.

August ~ Sturgeon moon
Because it is sturgeon season in certain parts of the world in August, its moon is called the sturgeon moon. This is the month to give thanks. Not only to the Great Spirit, but to yourself too. So set this moon aside for pampering yourself and your family. Your magikal night can begin with a relaxing meditation and a personal reading for yourself.

September ~ Corn moon
Native Americans began to harvest their crops during this month every year (this full moon occurs late in August and is called the harvest moon). If the full moon occurs earlier in September, it is called the corn moon because the corn crop is ready for picking at that time. A good time clean and clear up the issues of life. A ritual for healing old wounds, emotional and physical, forgiving transgressors and yourself. A "letting go" time. Your harvesting the abundance of your soul and your growth, so get rid of that old stuff and make room for the new enlightened you!

October ~ Hunter's moon
The hunting season begins in October, thus the name hunter's moon. This is a good time to align yourself with nature and conducting magikal rituals concerning animal issues, such as finding your personal animal guide, totem or relating to your birth totem.

November ~ Beaver moon
Beaver traps were once set in this month to catch enough beaver to make warm clothing for the upcoming winter. A wonderful time for setting protection and protecting yourself from those 'cold' winds that try to interfere with your personal spiritual evolution.

December ~ Cold moon
The approach of cold weather in the Northern Hemisphere gives this month's full moon its name. Once again a wonderful moon for turning your attention to home, especially ritual space.

The gardens are bursting with berries. Letting us know life is full of sweet flavor.

July ~ Deer Moon
Moose are extremely rare in the south-eastern U.S. Perhaps for this reason the early Deboreans call this the Deer Moon, instead of the Buck Moon as mentioned in the Almanac. It's the sign of building and repairing one's life, home and spirit.

August ~ Fish Moon
Another diversion from the Almanac, instead of sturgeon moon this month is called the Fish Moon. Rivers and lakes are filled with schools of fish, providing nourishment to body and soul.

September ~ Fruit Moon
The early fall is associated with the harvest of orchards in the south-east. Occurring along side Mabon, the 2nd of the harvest festivals it is a time to collect the berries and tree fruits and prepare them for the long cold winter months. It is the sign to prepare life and the soul during the waning year or the end of the cycle of life.

October ~ Harvest Moon
The harvest of gardens and fields are in full swing under the Harvest Moon. A special orange glow illuminates this moon just as the trees decorate the world with beautiful fall color. Lending a reminder to take stock of one's winter pantry, life and spirit as the cold winter makes it's way into the year.

November ~ Hunter's Moon
Early Deboreans supplemented their harvest stores with meat from forest animals during this month. Ensuring their families were well prepared for the barren months of winter.

December ~ Cold Moon
In the south-east, December is the first of the wintry cold months. The fires are blazing day and night, and the warmth of family and friends are kept close at hand. Reminding us all that we are not alone as the year comes to a close.

The Algonquin Tribes - circa 1400-1450
January ~ Full Wolf Moon
Amid the zero cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. It was also known as the Old Moon or the moon after Yule. In some tribes this was the Full Snow Moon; most applied that name to the next moon.

February ~ Full Snow Moon
Usually the heaviest snows fall in this month. Hunting becomes very difficult, and hence to some tribes this was the Full Hunger Moon.

March ~ Full Worm Moon
In this month the ground softens and the earthworm casts reappear, inviting the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signals the end of winter, or the Full Crust Moon because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation.

April ~ Full Pink Moon
The grass pink or wild ground phlox is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names were the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and -- among coastal tribes -- the Full Fish Moon, when the shad came upstream to spawn. This is also the Paschal Full Moon; the first full Moon of the spring season. The first Sunday following the Paschal Moon is Easter Sunday.

May~ Full Flower Moon
Flowers are abundant everywhere. It was also known as the Full Corn Planting Moon or the Milk Moon.

June~ Full Strawberry Moon
Known to every Algonquin tribe. Europeans called it the Rose Moon.

July~ Full Buck Moon,
When the new antlers of buck deer push out from their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, thunderstorms being now most frequent. Sometimes this is also called the Full Hay Moon.

August~ Full Sturgeon Moon.
When this large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water like Lake Champlain is most readily caught. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because the moon rises looking reddish through sultry haze, or the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.

September~ Full Corn Moon
Sometimes also called the Fruit Moon; such monikers were used for a full moon that occurs during the first week of September, so as to keep the Harvest Moon from coming too early in the calendar.

October~ Full Harvest Moon
Traditionally, this designation goes to the full moon that occurs closest to the Autumnal (fall) Equinox. At the peak of the harvest, farmers can work into the night by the light of this moon. Usually the full moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the moon seems to rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25 to 30 minutes later across the U.S., and only 10 to 20 minutes later for much of Canada and Europe. Corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice -- the chief Indian staples -- are now ready for gathering.

November~ Full Beaver Moon
Now it is time to set beaver traps before the swamps freeze to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Beaver Full Moon come from the fact that the beavers are now active in their preparation for winter. This is also called the Frosty Moon, and as this is also the next full moon after the Harvest Moon, it can also be referred to as the Hunters' Moon. With the leaves falling and the deer fattened, it is time to hunt. Since the fields have been reaped, hunters can ride over the stubble, and can more easily see the fox, also other animals, which have come out to glean and can be caught for a thanksgiving banquet after the harvest.

December is usually considered the month that the winter cold begins to fasten its grip.

Money Spell

Another spell from my 'draft folder', again has been sitting there for over two years. A universal thanks to the author for it. I know we can all use a little extra cash once in awhile and this seems like a good spell to bring some into yours. May good fortune smile on you as you perform this spell. So Mote it Be.

Items Used:
Green Candle
“Earthy” incense, such as sandalwood, cedar, or patchouly.
A toothpick or another sharp item to etch on a candle.

Breathe deep. Holding the candle in your hands begin to focus on your goal. “See” it as if it has already happened. Take your time with this. Allow the feeling-sense of the goal to permeate you as you will it into the candle. Imagine that the candle is now glowing and throbbing with the power of your goal. It is just waiting to be released into the universe by burning.

Place the candle in a holder and take three deep breaths. Notice the silence at the end of your breaths, how it is the primal state of being, the backdrop upon which everything else is created. Before the time of creation was the Void. Allow yourself to “tune-into” that Void now, invoking the primal state that contains all possibility. Imagine that your breath is infused with the potential that is present in all of possibility, manifest and unmanifest.

With your attention still tuned towards your goal, light the candle and say:

“By the light of candle bright,
by the breath of dark abyss,
I call abundance now to come,
And revel with me now in bliss.”

Know that as the candle burns, the potential that you have placed within it is now transforming into something more real. Being transformed visibly into light and heat, and invisibly into manifestation, the energy of your goal is sent into the universe where it will plant the seeds that will sprout and grow into your magickal goal. Allow the candle to burn all the way down. If you cast a circle you may disperse it before the candle has burned out or afterwards, it is entirely up to your intuition. When the candle is burned out you may wish to keep the remains (if any) as a reminder of your rite until it is manifested. This too is up to you.

Carry your photo, with the note attached, in your handbag or wallet during your interview.

JOB SPELL
Write on a green candle the kind of job you want and burn the candle saying:

CANDLE SPELL TO GET A JOB
This spell should be used only after you have submitted your resume or application.
With a pin or sharp knife, write the name of the company(s) you want to work for on the
side of a large green candle. On a red candle, you need to carve the victory rune
(Tiwaz, it looks like an arrow, pointing up) and your full name. Burn both candles for
30 minutes on Thursday after the sun sets, while visualizing yourself getting the kind
of job you want. At the end of the 30 minutes, snuff the candles (do not blow them out).
Burn them each Thursday after that for 15 minutes until they burn out, or until you get the job.
Dispose of the candles and leave a small bowl of milk outside overnight as an offering. SPELL FOR FINDING A JOB
Herbal charms kept in your purse or pocket are good ways to carary magick with you to
interviews. Sprinkle a little sage, lavendar, dill, basil, and parsley into a green cloth and add

EMPLOYMENT SPELL
Begin on Sunday.
Light a Gold or Yellow colored candle and speak the following spell:

Draw a topaz though a flame of a yellow candle and say over it:
"Find me to be compatible in all ways"
Carry or wear the topaz and expect good fortune to follow! JOB SPELL
Before going to the interview place three grains of salt in a handkerchief
and put it in your pocket. When you get to the place of employment, wait until your
alone or the interviewer is somehow distracted. Then throw the salt into the north
corner of the room. Within three days you will have the job. GET A JOB SPELL
If you are looking for a job, the night before, take a bath/shower with some rosemary
decoction to give yourself that little something extra in the eyes of the interviewer.
Light a green candle and chant
"Aura of Green, be bright this night,

for as long as you wish with the aim of the job in mind. This is best begun on the night of
the New Moon: Use an astral candle for yourself - your color. A brown candle for the job
itself. A green candle for prosperity. Burn a prosperity incense and anoint the candles with
a prosperity oil - I would use cinnamon. Anoint from wick to end. These candles should be
in a safe place, they have to burn out entirely. Place the brown candle in the center, the
green on the right, and the astral on the left. Light the astral:

Say the above as you light the candles. Leave these to burn out completely and dispose

second brown candle for 9 minutes while meditating and gaining balance in preparation
for the job and the good to come. During this time period, actively seek a job.
Listen to your intuition and follow up on all leads.

SPELL TO BRING ABOUT A NEED
You need a candle to represent the need, a card to represent yourself,
4 cards to represent your need. Light the candle.
Lay the card that represent you on the altar and say:
"May this card represent thee"
Pick up the rest of the cards and say:
"As I place these cards at the quarters shall my need be seen"
Lay the cards at the quarters as you go say the card's name and the need. Then say:
Fulfill my need as quick as can be
by the power of three bring the (need) to me, so mote it be"

THE 7 DAY LUCK SPELL
Items you'll need:
Black 7 day candle, Water, saucer, paper.
Fill your saucer slightly with some water. On a piece of paper write the things you most
desire, (like love, money, a job..) Fold that up and put it on the saucer (yes, in the water)
Now put your 7 day candle on top of the paper and light it.
Each night before you go to sleep visualize your desires being obtained.
On the seventh day, snuff out the candle and dispose of it by getting it away from your property.
This spell can be customized by using different colored candles, pink or red for love, purple for
spirituality, and so on. The black candle is used for "breaking through" those
obstacles that are preventing you from your desires.

CAIRN MAGICK
This is something that can be done, alone, on a walk in the countryside, with no extra
magical 'tools' or paraphenalia. It is simple magic and down to earth paganism. It can be
applied for any need, but is particularly suitable for 'earthy' needs, such as money, housing, jobs, healing.
Take one stone, and speak (or 'think') into it your need. Place the stone firmly on the ground.
Take another and repeat, until you have a fair sized mound, or Cairn. As each stone is placed,
imagine that the magic is building and that your need is getting nearer to being met.
If you have no stones, you can still do this with imaginary stones, or pebbles, or whatever
else seems right at the particular moment.A MAGIC CHARM TO SECURE EMPLOYMENT
Take a green handkerchief or a piece of green cloth roughly that size, lay it flat with
one of the corners facing you. Place upon it 3 cardamom seed, a bay leaf and a sprig
rosemary (or 1 tsp. of dried herb). These herbs surround you in self-confidence and attract energy.
Cardamom sweetens your personality and brings out your natural eloquence.
Bay leaves are symbols of success and triumph.

You will need: A green candle A purple candle
A talisman with your religious symbol (pentacle, cross, star of David, etc)
Place a green candle on one side of a room. Place a purple candle on the other side.
Now, light the purple candle. With your religious talisman hanging from a chain or
string (to be worn as a necklace) dangling from your right hand, pick up the purple (lit)
candle with your right hand. Now walk in a straight line across the room directly
to the green candle. Using the purple one, light the green candle.
Set down the candle so they sit next to each other. Chant,
"I walk forth without doubt and fear,
And success draws me near."
Lay the necklace in front of it and meditate for awhile on the success you need.
Let the candles burn themselves down, and wear the necklace whenever you wish
success you follow you. When you walk through a door to job interviews, auditions,
or anywhere you need success, imagine how you walked in a straight line in your
ritual, and consciously make an effort to do the same when passing through the door.

On Imbolc, a bundle of corn from the harvest is dressed in ribbons and becomes the Corn Bride. On February 2, the Corn Bride is placed on the hearth or hung on the door to bring prosperity, fertility, and protection to the home.

Release Ritual

You will need to set aside several hours to do this, preferably on a
Friday evening, when the moon is waning. Switch off the phone and make
sure you will not be disturbed. If you are with friends, sit quietly in a
circle to create a sacred space that you will all enjoy.

Light a pink candle, one for each person present, and some incense. Look
at the piece of paper on which you have listed your doubts and fears. Do
you need to add to it? Be honest with yourself. As each feeling
surfaces, give it a color. For instance, if you feel sadness give it a
brown or black color; If you are feeling intense rage, give it a bright
red slash. Then write beside the colors all the experiences and people
that it represents. Share your feelings out loud with those who are with
you. When you have finished, complete the evening by joining hands
together. Put all your fears and doubts into the center of the circle by
saying them out loud, and then imagine them being transformed by the beams
of love from the universe. Keep your paper with you for three days and
three nights. Read and reread it, adding to it whenever you feel it is
necessary. On the third night, which will be Monday, the moon's day, set
up your altar to create a sacred space. This is a very powerful ceremony
and again, you may need a couple of hours in which to perform it,
especially if you are with friends.

Light the candles and incense, and sit quietly for a few minutes. For the
final time, read your list, and allow the color of each negative thought
to come into your mind's eye. Gently release them as you breathe each one
out of your body. Then call each person who has been a negative influence
in your life into your mind's eye and release them, by saying out loud an
incantation along the following lines:

, I unconditionally forgive you for all the hurt you have
caused me and I release you from my life. Thank you for the lesson, but
it is time to move on. From this day on, I draw only positive and
supportive relationships to me.

Keep saying the above until you feel you have really forgiven all those
who have caused you hurt in the past. Now you are ready to burn your
list. Light it carefully with the candle flame, place it in a heatproof
dish, and watch it turn to ash. As you do so, say the following
incantation:

Burn, burn
All those thoughts that churn
That stop my love from becoming alive

Then take the ash outside and either scatter it into the night air or bury
it in the ground saying:

Go, dark thoughts
Scatter far and wide
Into the night
Be thou gone
So mote it be.

Return to the altar and give yourself time to reflect on the magnitude of
what you have done. It is hard for someone to have a healthy, loving
relationship with you unless you love and respect yourself, so be proud of
who you are and learn to regognize that every relationship in your life is
a reflection of your own level of self love. Those who open their hearts
to learn forgiveness of themselves and others, break free to draw in a
higher conscious level of relationship.

Allow the candles to burn themselves out completely. The spell for
letting go is complete.

Creative Spell to Find Your Dream Job

Another spell that was sitting in my 'drafts' folder, and again I have no idea now where this came from or who wrote it. I apologize and thank who ever did. Sounds like a fun spell to use to gain a new job.

• Step 1
Gather magazines and newsprint, etc and cut out pictures and images and words that reflect your perfect job. Pictures of the company you'd like to work for, job descriptions from job posting boards, successful working people in your preferred industry, and the like work well for this spell. Make a collage of your images on construction paper by gluing your images in any way you feel would be reflective of your intention to find the perfect job.

•Step 2
On the night of a New Moon, gather your items together and go to a quiet space near a window. Anoint your gold candle in the patchouli oil from bottom to top, coating it completely. Then, sprinkle cinnamon on the candle over the oil. Place the candle in the small candle holder. As you are doing this clear your mind and focus only on your intention to find your perfect job.

•Step 3
Place your candle in the holder on a flat surface near a window. Place your collage of images behind the candle, far enough away that when the candle is lit, it will not catch the collage on fire. If you are using a window sill, tape your collage on the window behind the candle. If you are using another flat surface near a window, tape your collage on a wall nearby.

•Step 4
Sit facing your window and candle and place the picture of yourself next to your candle. Light the candle. Place your lodestone between your hands and close your eyes. Concentrate on getting the job you want by picturing yourself interviewing with the hiring manager, presenting your skills to the person, selling yourself as the best candidate for the position, and shaking hands with the person and accepting an offer for the job. Let your mind wander during this step. Think of all the elements of the job interview going in your favor. Do this until you are confident you have the job.

•Step 5
Now, take the picture of yourself and tape it on to the collage, anywhere. With your lodestone in your hands say this with conviction: "Anything is possible in my life, as of now I release all fear. Now the perfect job is mine, the intent is set and the path is clear. For the good of all, with harm to none. My spell is cast and it is done!"

•Step 6
Let your candle burn all the way down. Keep your collage where you can see it everyday. Carry your lodestone in your pocket or purse everywhere you go, especially to job interviews. Because this type of spell takes time, it may be that you should repeat it on the very next New Moon. Usually a turn of the Moon is sufficient, but it couldn't hurt to repeat it, if you have had no results from the first one. Support your spell work by thinking about being successful in your job search, and be realistic in your job choice and your dream job will come to you!

So Imbolc is just a few days away and I thought it might be nice to gather a few things together in preparation for it. One of the things I found on a wikipedia entry was the story of the Cailleach and how she goes out hunting for fire wood as an indication of the severity and the length of winter that is left. So if the weather is stormy she cannot gather much wood so the remainder of the winter will be short and mild. If the weather is fair she will be able to find and gather a lot of wood so remaining winter will be long and severe. Seven Knob Candles and More.....

SEVEN-DAY and
SEVEN-KNOB CANDLES:

Whereas Catholic religious practice presents us with the novena (nine-day) candle, in hoodoo, we see instead the seven-day candle, sometimes referred to by older practitioners as the "7-day vigil candle," due to its being burned for difficult cases or ongoing situations over the course of seven days, while one watches and waits for divinatory signs.

There are four types of 7-day candles used in hoodoo:

The candle divided by seven needles or pins:

I believe that this is the oldest form of the 7-day candle. To make one, take a regular offertory or jumbo-size candle and seven needles or pins. Poke the needles into the candle, dividing it into seven equal parts (the seventh needle or pin can go at the top or at the bottom, but no one i know ever uses SIX needles or pins to divide the candle into seven parts). Write your wish (or seven wishes) on a piece of paper. Turn the paper 90 degrees sideways and write your full name over the wish or wishes seven times, crossing and covering the previous writing with your name. Place the paper under the candle. Dress the candle with an appropriate oil. Burn it for seven nights, pinching it out (NOT blowing it out) each time a needle falls. Save the needles when they fall. When the last needle falls, stick the needles into the paper in the form of two X patterns surrounding one double-cross pattern (that has two lines crossing one upright line). Dispose of the ritual remains in an appropriate way : Bury the paper and any leftover wax under your doorstep if your intention is to draw something or someone to you. Throw the paper and wax away at a crossroads, in running water, or in a graveyard if the intention is to get rid of something or someone.

THE SEVEN KNOB CANDLE:

I have seen ads for these under the name "The Famous 7-Knob Wishing Candle" dating back at least to the 1930s; they might be older, but i do not know. They are mentioned favourably in Henri Gamache's "Master Book of Candle Burning" (written in 1942) and they are very popular in the African-American community, which seems to indicate that they are efficacious. Seven-knob candles generally come in four colours, with the usual symbolism implied (white for blessing or wishing, red for love or sex, green for money or gambling luck, black for destruction or revenge). Carve a brief wish on each knob -- either the same wish seven times or seven different wishes, one per knob. Dress the candle with an appropriate oil. Burn it for seven nights, pinching it out (NOT blowing it out) each time a knob is gone.

THE SEVEN CHARM SORTILAGE CANDLE:

This is a hand-made candle that contains seven tiny metal charms (milagros or ex-votos) inside, which are revealed one per day as you burn the candle down over the course of seven days. It is more common in Latin America than in the USA. Often the charms are religious as well as lucky, and they may include a cross, an angel, the powerful hand of God, a man's head, a woman's head, and so forth.

THE SEVEN-WISHES GLASS ENCASED CANDLE:

This style of 7-day candle only became popular from the 1970s onward. It is made with seven layers of wax in different colours, poured into a tall, narrow glass container. Burn one layer each day with appropriate prayers or wishes. It's interesting to note that this is the same size and shape of candle which the Catholics call a novena candle, although they expect it to burn for nine days. Fill your saucer slightly with some water. On a piece of paper write the things you most desire, (like love, money, a job..) Fold that up and put it on the saucer (yes, in the water)

Thoth

Thoth (pronounced "Toth", rhyming with "both") was one of the most important deities of ancient Egyptian religion and worship. Typically portrayed with the head of an ibis (a big, sacred wading bird), Thoth was known as the tongue of Ra, who had cursed him, and often spoke on Ra's behalf. Because his job was to speak the words that fulfilled Ra's wishes, Thoth is credited with creating the heavens and earth.

Although he is referenced in some sources as being Ra's son, there is also a theory that Thoth managed to create himself by using the power of magical language. He is known as the creator of magic and the messenger of the gods. Thoth is also referred to in some stories as the keeper of divine records, advisor to the gods, and mediator in disputes. He appears in a few legends as the god who weighs the souls of the dead, although many other stories assign that job to Anubis.

Because Thoth is a lunar deity, he is often portrayed wearing a crescent on his head. He is closely associated with Seshat, a goddess of writing and wisdom, who is known as the scribe of the divine. The Greeks saw him as Hermes, and so the center of Thoth's worship in the classical world was found in Hermopolis.

Thoth appears in a significant role in the legend of Osiris and Isis. When Osiris was murdered and dismembered by his own brother, Set, his lover Isis went to gather up his pieces. It was Thoth who provided her with the magical words to resurrect Osiris so that she could conceive his child, Horus. Later on, when Horus was killed, Thoth appeared to help in his resurrection too.

Thoth enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in popularity when Aleister Crowley published The Book of Thoth, which is a philosophical analysis of the Tarot. Crowley also created a Thoth Tarot deck.

Thoth is sometimes called upon for workings related to wisdom, magic, and fate. He may also be invoked if you're working on anything to do with writing or communications -- creating a Book of Shadows or writing a spell, speaking words of healing or meditation, or mediating a dispute.

Taureans have a gift for beauty, thanks to their Venusian natures. They enjoy pleasure in all aspects of their life, whether it is fine wine, good food, art, music or a beautiful garden. They need a salubrious setting in order to feel at peace within themselves and with others and will take time and care to produce such an environment. Taureans seek harmony and sensuality and will enjoy both almost to excess. They are tactile people, loving delicious, tender, slow and affectionate touch. Essential oils that support their sensual natures are the aphrodisiacs – jasmine, neroli, patchouli, rose, sandalwood, ylang ylang, clary and black pepper.

But Taureans are not all sweetness and light. When in their bullish nature they can be negative, lazy, obstinate, resistant to change and willful. I love this ritual. I love standing out in the rain and letting it wash over me anyways but in conjunction with this chant it seems a wonderful way to let the rain wash away the pain. I like to be as close to naked as possible when standing in the rain, that way you are getting the closest contact with the rain and the elements as possible.

This is to be done on a rainy night outdoors.
Stand in the rain and let it touch you - do not wear heavy clothing to protect yourself from it.
Call the rain and draw it down harder. Cast no circle, lest the pain stay trapped within it.
When the downpour becomes heavy, begin. Say the incantation charged full of emotion
and let it come from the heart.

Symbolism Of the Eye

It's been said the eye is the window to the soul, which may explain why the symbolic meaning of eyes tends to be of a spiritual nature.

In Christianity the Eye of God is depicted hovering over a tent which is symbolic of the Tabernacle - the temple of the faithful. The eye here represents the omni-present spirit of God peering into the soul of the faithful - ever watchful over those who serve.

In Egypt we see the Eye of Horus (a.k.a. the eye of Ra, and also referred to as a wedjat or a udjat). In this context the eye is a symbol of protection and life. During his battle with Set, Horus' eye was ripped out and torn to pieces. Thoth, however, was able to save the eye and restored it by invoking the magic of the falcon.

It's interesting that in Egypt and Western occult traditions the left eye is considered a lunar trait and a symbol of northern direction. The right eye is a solar symbol and represents southern direction.

The "third eye" is referred to as the spiritual eye, the intuitive eye, or the eye of the soul. It is associated with the brow chakra (or Ajna chakra) which facilitates intuition and extra sensory perception. The third eye is depicted on the forehead of Shiva, and is symbolic of the inner eye that sees all things within a cosmic perspective.

In Dreaming the meaning of eyes indicates an opening into a new dimension. This is symbolic of your vision clearing and focusing in on a new direction. It may also indicate your ability to see past what is common and spiritually arrive to the point where your inner vision perceives all things in their divine glory - even the simplest of things become imbued with an exquisite quality inherent in all nature.

The symbolic meaning of eyes also carry a message of prophesy - literally seeing "a vision of the future." This translates well with ancient alchemists and astrologers speaking of eyes of the sky foretelling certain events as they chart the stars in certain patterns to ascertain various outcomes.

Instructions:

Make a small bag. It can be very plain and simple, but it is important that you stitch it together by hand, so that you are putting your self-essence into it. The bag needs to be large enough for you to get both hands inside, with a drawstring to secure it. As a special touch, embroider your initials on it in your favorite color.

On a bright, sunny day collect a few handfuls of dry earth and some borage flowers. Feel the sun's rays warming your body and the flowers and the soil in your hands, and store the memory carefully.

Dry the borage flowers, then place them with the earth in your bag. pull the drawstring to secure them. keep the bag in an accessible place. When things are going badly or you need a pick-me-up, it will only take a few moments to place your hands in the bag, touch the dried borage flowers, reflect on your stored memories, and let Mother Earth work her magic.

The Number 13

The symbolic meaning of number thirteen receives a shady interpretation in Norse myth, when an honorary banquet was held in Valhalla for Baldur (god of nobility, redemption and admirable strength) among other twelve Norse gods. Loki (the trickster) came to the banquet as the uninvited thirteenth guest. Afterwards, we learn Baldur was slain by Höðr who, to execute the god, was given a magic spear by Loki.

Similarly, the darker symbolism of thirteen continues in its Christian association with the Last Supper. Twelve disciples and the Christ, formed a group of thirteen to share the last meal. Here, thirteen is seen as a foreboding omen as we learn of Christ’s fate after the gathering.

In the same vein, Friday the thirteenth is commonly reviled as it was said the Last Supper in the upper room took place on a Friday. Further, Friday 13th in 1307 was the date on which the assembly of the Knights Templar were systematically assasinated.

In the guest company scenarios we can point to Judas or Loki as the thirteenth figures and so deem the association of the number thirteen as unlucky.

However, one may also consider the opposite, and recognize the enlightened guests, Christ and Baldur as the thirteenth entities. This brings about a heightened perception of the number and lends symbolism of:

Primarily, the spiritual meaning of zero deals with pure potentiality. It is the point from which all other numbers spring forth. Even visually – the number zero is symbolic of the seed, womb or egg from which pure potential emerges.

Because the zero also visually resembles a circle, this is symbolic of eternity, evolution, infinity. Additionally, as with most symbols comprised or containing the circle we’re dealing with meanings of cycles, evolution, and time. Think wheels here – “what comes around goes around.”

However, due to its numerical value, the zero may also be interpreted as a void – a representation of non-existence, and sometimes death. But, again, our minds wander back to the symbolism of enternity and infinity as well as cycles and rebirth. Consequently we may say there is no real death only another phase of life.

Mayan glyphs used the “cosmic spiral” to respresent the numeral zero – they inherently knew the massiveness of mystery swirling in the pools of zero-ness.

Pythagoras, (practically the father of numerology) viewed the sign of the zero as the container for all things and the birthing place of all other values (that which preceeds must be the birth giver of all that follows). This is also the interpretation of the zero in Tarot numbers as well as other mystery school teachings.

Focus upon the zero is encouraged when we wish to be present in the moment, when we are trying to regroup our level of awareness. This is because the zero is representative of the essence of reality. It is everything and nothing at the same time.

I think I was/am more interested in the aspects of or the idea of possibly using something like this on yourself to possibly change a habit etc....

Triple Strength Bend-Over Voodoo Doll Spell :

Bend-over spells are in a class of persuasive spells called commanding. These types of spells are designed to manipulate someone to do your bidding. They are used to subjugate the will of any person, such as a partner or employer, so that they will easily and willingly do whatever it is you want them to do.

As a general rule, the best time to do commanding type spells is on Saturday during the full or waxing moon. Of course, it is a matter of preference as to whether or not you work with moon phases, though it is generally agreed among occult practitioners that working with the moon phases can enhance your work. Healing With Borage

Borage is one of the remedies developed by the Flower Essence Society.

As a flower essence, Borage is for heavy heartedness and lack of confidence when facing challenges. The remedy is said to bring courage to the taker, providing a condition of “buoyancy of the soul”. Borage is also said to bring “lightness and ebullience to the soul, filling it with optimism and enthusiasm.”

Borage has recently been added to the homeopathic pharmacopeia. A person needing Borage (as a homeopathic medication) fears failure. They feel that it is their duty to take on all the responsibility in a given situation, resulting in resenting their role in life. Somatically this attitude can be expressed as stiffness in the joints, high blood pressure, tension headaches and flaring eczema. People needing the remedy Borage tend to be warmer than others and to feel worse in the heat.

It seems this ‘borage type’ may have a history of taking on the role of parent in their family at young age. If a parent was missing or sick they take on heavy family responsibilities such as looking after younger siblings. Since they are often not ready for this task, they may compensate for their anxiety by taking on a more exaggerated parental nature, becoming overly protective, strict and authoritarian. They are argumentative, forceful, and angry, tending to create tension and to lack flexibility. (Olsen 1997)

There is a sense that they must attend to every detail or a catastrophe will befall the family. By saving others, they are limiting the possibility that they themselves will be abandoned. Gradually they lose any playful, carefree, and spontaneous aspects, because they feel that everything has to be right. Borage: A Short Primer

Latin name: Borago Officinalis
Family: Boraginaceae

Borage has always been associated with courage and cheerfulness, "to exhilerate and make the mind glad," "to drive away all sadness" and Parkinson adds that it is of "known Vertue to revive the Hypochondriac and chear the hard Student".

Recent research suggests that borage does in fact stimulate the adrenal glands.

The leaves and flowers are rich in potassium, calcium and salts and are an excellent tonic and blood cleanser. It is also refrigerant - a fresh leaf will lower the temperature in the mouth - and thus useful for fevers. The mucilage it contains is helpful for coughs and bronchitis. Drink an infusion of the leaves and flowers, a cupful at a time, or inhale as a vapor treatment. The pulped leaves make a poultice for swellings and bruises.

Use the leaves and flowers fresh, as they quickly lose their flavor and goodness when dried. The flowers can be preserved by crystallizing.

Pick the young leaves to eat as a salad before they become rough; they taste refreshing and cooling, with a slightly bitter, cucumber flavor. The larger leaves can be boiled in the same was as spinach, chopped in stuffing, or fried in batter as fritters. Eat the flowers raw in salad or crystallize them as decorations for puddings and cakes. They are especially well known as cooling additions to summer drinks - either steeped with a few young leaves in fruit cups, cider, beer of wine, or frozen into ice cubes and added as decorative 'conceits'.

Believed to have originated in Syria, borage is now widely cultivated in Europe and America, and often escapes to grow in hedge banks and by roads. On rich ground it grows at least 3 ft high, with stout prickly stems and broad, rough, wrinkled leaves covered with stiff hairs.

Borage was introduced to northern Europe by the Romans, and is first recorded as growing in England in the 13th century. A list of necessary seeds to be taken to new England in 1631 includes '10z Buradg seed at 4d'.

Borage is an annual, but occasionally survives the winter indoors or in a greenhouse. Sow seeds in the spring - they will quickly germinate with 2 large seed leaves - and plant out in a sunny position about 20 inches apart. It self-sows readily and will tolerate most soils, but flourishes on a loose, rich, and limy ground.

The closely related viper's bugloss, Echium vulgare, has similar properties. It is biennial, grows wild in dry places, especially near the sea, and will grow from seed in the garden.

Full Moon Names and Meanings

Full Moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States. The tribes kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full Moon. Their names were applied to the entire month in which each occurred. There was some variation in the Moon names, but in general, the same ones were current throughout the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior. European settlers followed that custom and created some of their own names. Since the lunar month is only 29 days long on the average, the full Moon dates shift from year to year. Here is the Farmers Almanac’s list of the full Moon names.

• Full Wolf Moon – January Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January’s full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon.

• Full Snow Moon – February Since the heaviest snow usually falls during this month, native tribes of the north and east most often called February’s full Moon the Full Snow Moon. Some tribes also referred to this Moon as the Full Hunger Moon, since harsh weather conditions in their areas made hunting very difficult.

• Full Worm Moon – March As the temperature begins to warm and the ground begins to thaw, earthworm casts appear, heralding the return of the robins. The more northern tribes knew this Moon as the Full Crow Moon, when the cawing of crows signaled the end of winter; or the Full Crust Moon, because the snow cover becomes crusted from thawing by day and freezing at night. The Full Sap Moon, marking the time of tapping maple trees, is another variation. To the settlers, it was also known as the Lenten Moon, and was considered to be the last full Moon of winter.

• Full Pink Moon – April This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring. Other names for this month’s celestial body include the Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and among coastal tribes the Full Fish Moon, because this was the time that the shad swam upstream to spawn.

• Full Flower Moon – May In most areas, flowers are abundant everywhere during this time. Thus, the name of this Moon. Other names include the Full Corn Planting Moon, or the Milk Moon.

• Full Strawberry Moon – June This name was universal to every Algonquin tribe. However, in Europe they called it the Rose Moon. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June . . . so the full Moon that occurs during that month was christened for the strawberry!

• The Full Buck Moon – July July is normally the month when the new antlers of buck deer push out of their foreheads in coatings of velvety fur. It was also often called the Full Thunder Moon, for the reason that thunderstorms are most frequent during this time. Another name for this month’s Moon was the Full Hay Moon.

• Full Sturgeon Moon – August The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.

• Full Corn Moon – September This full moon’s name is attributed to Native Americans because it marked when corn was supposed to be harvested. Most often, the September full moon is actually the Harvest Moon.

• Full Harvest Moon – October This is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in September, but in some years it occurs in October. At the peak of harvest, farmers can work late into the night by the light of this Moon. Usually the full Moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the Moon seems to rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25 to 30 minutes later across the U.S., and only 10 to 20 minutes later for much of Canada and Europe. Corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice the chief Indian staples are now ready for gathering.

• Full Beaver Moon – November This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.

• The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon – December During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun.

Wolf Moon: The full moon in January. Said to be called the Wolf Moon because the wolves are out in the bright light this time of year - anxious and hot on the the trail for a feast to slake their hunger in the lean winter month. Lunar Symbolism:
Before blasting off into Wolf Moon symbolism, let’s take a look at lunar implications. Subtle, cunning and soft in silky shadows, the moons meanings can be slippery. But, to those who grasp moon symbolism, great insights follow. Typically feminine in archetypal understanding, the moon carries themes of cycles and fertility.

The frigidity of winter crunches life to a stand-still in the wild. To be sure, it’s a time of “sink or swim” to all wildlife exposed to the elements this time of year.

Wolves, however, often thrive during this lean month. They are designed to handle the brutality of cold quite well. Furthermore, as Wolves are inclined to pick off weaker animals, January offers up a host of feasting options. Perhaps we can use the resourcefulness of the Wolf to reconsider our options in life. Magical Spell
On the first day of the new year, place a thin slice of horseradish in your wallet. Keep it your wallet for the entire year. At the end of the year, take the old piece out AFTER you have put a new slice in. Throw the old piece out of the back door. Put the paper bill, and the coin if using in your wallet as well. Do not spend this money, but keep it so that it always attracts more.

Carry the horseradish in your wallet all year. If you change wallets for any reason, be sure to transfer the root to the new wallet.

If you give a wallet as a gift to someone, always make sure that it has a paper bill and a slice of horseradish root in it. Giving an empty wallet is an anti-charm that forebodes poverty for the person receiving the wallet.

Moon Incense

This incense is used in many rituals and is a common spell component. It is an incense of increase that is deceivingly easy to make. Use all of your focus and energy, your will and intention, while making this scent. You may find that this is one of the best powdered incenses you've ever made! It is used over charcoals (the ones specifically made for incense that come in rolls) or over a ritual fire.

CAUTION! Warning! If used over a ritual fire, flames will leap up along the dust trail of this incense powder! There will be sparkling (sparks) of incense outside of this trail of flames as well! This is an impressive effect, but dangerous if you are not practiced at it! Start out small and toss about 1 teaspoon of it over the glowing coals or flames, all at once, don't trail the dust or sprinkle it. Stand away from the fire, and upwind. Use in areas that do not require burn permits, and have something to douse the fire nearby. Do not use if you are wearing gauzy or loose ritual robes and costumes. Be very careful! You are responsible for your actions.

The Recipe

Within the three days prior to the actual full moon, but not after! Gather the ingredients required, along with a mortar and pestle to blend them in. If desired, you can use your cauldron, and some sort of crushing or mixing tool.

2 ounces (about 56 grams) of the finest sandalwood powder you can find

4 grams (a marble sized nugget) of amber resin, NOT the stone! The soft, sweet smelling resin that is often imported from India, available at health food stores, and of course herb and Witch shops.

3 drops of Vanilla Extract. Real vanilla extract is available at almost any grocery store.

Please Note: This recipe is intended for outdoor rituals. If you will be using the Moon Incense inside, use 1/2 ounce Sandalwood powder instead of 1 ounce and increase the amber from 5 grams to 10 grams!

Preferably outside, under the actual full moon, or indoors near a window where the moon is visible: Fill the mortar or cauldron with the sandalwood powder, and crush the amber into it with the pestle or tool of your choice. Use CLOCKWISE or DEOSIL blending motions. Focus on the energy of the full moon, or if you are making the incense for a specific spell, focus on the goal of that spell alone. You can incorporate your favorite words of power or chant while doing this.

When the powder is smooth and consistent, add the vanilla, one drop at a time while saying your chosen words of power, (which is best) or the following (which will suffice in most cases): Drop of moon, grant my boon.

Blend in the drops in the same way you blended in the amber resin. Place the mixture in a clear glass jar with an airtight lid. Keep it away from heat, sunlight, and moisture. Charge it under the light of the full moon on the three days prior to it becoming actually full. The full moon light penetration is the reason for not storing this in an opaque jar. It is ready for use immediately, but can be charged more if desired.

So it has been about a week of trying to become more like Elrond from The Lord of the Rings while still acting as Sam for my personal Frodo. A bit of a slow start, but some small steps towards the goal were made. I have been studying more about the Tarot. I was in high Elrond mode when helping a friend sort through some family type situations and I checked out some books about writing. Have also been giving a lot of thought to clarity, as evidenced by the clarity spells and rituals posted this week. Unfortunately have not followed through on any of them but........I will as soon as I can steal a few moments to look through my stuf and find what I need to do them. The performance of those spells/rituals are on the 'to do' list for the week to come. Along with continuing to increasing my working knowledge of the Tarot. Along with that I am trying to determine if along with the reading I do actual readings. By which I mean that along with the reading about the meanings / symbolism of the cards to do an actual reading everyday to start feeling more comfortable with the cards and hopefully make a greater mental impression of meaning. So today I did a Personal Cycle spread with my Thoth Tarot Cards. I sleep with these cards under my pillow, I only use them for my own personal readings and never for any one else. After a confused start, dropping the cards etc, they seemed to right themselves in an amazing way. Part of the Personal Cycle spread entails you finding your 'significator' card, mine ended up being the first one at the top of the deck. I took this as an omen and used the cards that followed with no further shuffling of the deck. A recurring theme in the cards was clarity. A subject much on my mind lately. So I went looking for a spell for clarity and again in an amazing coincidence the first search option was for a spell on Gypsy Magic a blog produced by my dear friend Shirley Twofeathers. So it is the start of a new year, a new beginning according to those who are in charge of our calanders. I usually spend New Years Day watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy but this year that is not going to happen. My friend Shirley TwoFeathers and I usually watch and try to decipher who we have been in the previous year and who we would like to be in the year to come. For the last few years I have been Sam, helping my Frodo on his journey to Mount Doom, and it would appear that is my role again for at least a while this year. As some of you are aware my partner of twenty three years is dying from complications of what we thought was early on set Alzheimers but we found out is really lewy body dementia, a much faster acting form of dementia. So his Mt. Doom is death and I am trying to do the best job I can to help him on his journey to that end. I don't mind being Sam I think Sam is a very admirable character in the movie/book. Without him Frodo would not have made it to Morodor and Mt. Doom. But like Sam I am tired, physically, mentally and spiritually tired and I am ready to go home. What ever that means at this point. Gary is very near the end of his journey and I am ready for his suffering to end. Which leads me to who I want to be once my quest with Frodo/Gary is at it's end. I'm thinking I want to be more like Elrond. He is magickal but he is human. He has fought and suffered and lived to go home again. He knows what needs to be done and he does it regardless of how much it hurts. He also knows down to his core who he is, which is something I really need to learn. Who am I? My world, so to speak, will have changed in a major way. I will be rebuilding a life from what little is left. I need the courage, the strength and the magick to go on. One of my first steps is to breath some life into this blog, to use it as a sounding board, a place to store ideas, a place to expand and grow. Healing properties: Brings warmth, energy and stimulation, therefore good for energy, fatigue, colds, chilly and passive people. Construct magick circle. Call Quarters. Construct Altar. Invoke Goddess and God. Light incense.

Anoint black candle with banishing oil, imagining all obstacles, ill habits etc. falling away from you. Light candle and say,"

"I empower this candle to absorb all negative forces acting upon me.
As this candle burns, so let its powers engulf all negative energies, leaving my path clear for success."

Anoint white candle with good luck oil, imagining all good thoughts, successes and positive forces flocking unto you. Light candle and say,

Light petitioner candle and say,

So I was and still am looking for information on colour correspondences and astrological sun signs. I have found that very few sites agree on what colours correspond to which sun sign. One simple 'rule' I found, which made sense to me, was that to consider the earth, air, fire, and water correspondences of the signs and use colours that are associated with those elements. I also found this site and I really like the attributes it gave to the colours.

Simple Banishing Oil

Cast the circle. Anoint the black candle with banishing oil, visualizing all obstacles, bad habits, etc. falling away from you. Light the candle and say:

"This candle shall absorb
All negative forces acting around me and through me.
As this candle burns,
It engulfs all negative energies,
Clearing this next year for success."

Anoint the white candle with good luck oil, visualizing all good thoughts, success, and positive forces flocking to you. Light the candle and say:

Healing Spell

Items Used:
A photograph of the person to be healed.
A green candle
A jade ring (or other green healing stone)
some red cotton thread
A drawing of the afflicted area of the body
tea tree oil
a pinch of dried lavender
a small green cloth pouch
a glass of water

Special note: If the illness has to do with cancer or another type of tumor then this will be a type of banishing and you might want to substitute black for green in this spell. Additionally you might want to use jet or onyx instead of jade.

This is best performed during a waxing moon (or waning, if it is for banishing).

Ground and center. Breathe deep and feel your power. If you work with any Gods or Goddesses that you are particularly attuned to, especially if healing is among their attributes, feel their presence now. Hold the glass of water in both hands and feel your power, and that of the Gods, flowing into and through you. Feel it flow into the water and “see” it begin to glow with the power of healing. Say something like:

“Healing flows into this water,
flowing from Her sacred well.”

Know that the water will hold this charge until it is used. Place the cup aside for now.

Hold the candle and focus on the concept of health. You may wish to etch something on it like “ is now healed.” Rub some of the tea tree oil onto it. Put it in a holder and set it aside. Do the same with the ring, placing it over the end of the candle so that it rests on it, suspended. Sprinkle some of the water around the candleholder in a clockwise circle (counter-clockwise if you are banishing).

Hold the drawing of the afflicted area. Use your feeling-sense to delve into the area of the person’s body and feel the quality of energy there. If you imagine that it is too hot, for example, you may wish to imagine it cooling; if it is too active, you may try calming it down. Take the tea tree oil and draw a pentagram over the afflicted area with your fingers. Light the candle and say:

“I call forth light,
in the dark of night,
to heal the blight,
with strength and with might.”

Burn the drawing from the candle flame and put the ashes in the green pouch along with a pinch of lavender. Burn some of the lavender and allow the smoke to waft over the photograph as you focus on it. See the person as surrounded by a green aura of healing (or perhaps purple, or cobalt blue for a banishing). “Feel” that they are healthy, happy, and strong. If they had a broken leg, “see” them as running on perfectly strong legs; if a problem with their lungs, see them breathing effortlessly, etc. Allow your sense of their health and newfound strength to permeate the photograph. You may wish to chant something like:

” you are healed.
you are strong.”

You might wish to repeat this chant until you have achieved a sense of deep trance.

When you are in a deep state of trance and have felt that the healing power has been transferred to the person, then roll up the photograph and tie it with the thread

Say:

“Surrounded by a ring of jade,
encircled by the healing waters,
bound together by cord of blood,
strength restored and life renewed.”

Burn the photograph, releasing the power into the universe. Mix the resulting ashes with the ashes from the drawing and place inside the green pouch. Drink the water feeling it refresh and renew you, bringing you healing energy, keeping you cleansed. Allow the candle to burn completely out. Retrieve the ring and place inside the pouch along with the ashes. Keep this hidden until the full moon (or dark moon for a banishing) at which time it should be given to the subject of this healing. If this is not possible then it should be worn by a friend or loved one as a reminder of the healing energy.

Soul Mate Spell

A clear mind and focused goal

A ritual writing instrument (the pen is mightier than the Athame) such as quill, fountain pen, favorite ball-point, etc. In whatever color ink desired.

Moon Incense

Charcoal or a small ritual fire

Timing: any time, preferably after dark during the waxing moon. The timing is more flexible with this working for many reasons; the nature of the work, and the full moon energy contained in the moon incense which is an incense of Increase or drawing.

Reinforce your personal circle/aura and prepare for workings in your usual manner. Using the ritual pen and special paper, write words of power that will call the most perfect partner to you at this time. Do not include specific names, and avoid thinking of a specific person. If you can't find quite the right words, use the following:

When you are finished, read over what you wrote and confirm that everything you want to say is included. When you are certain it is as you wish, spend some time meditating on your goal while you light your ritual fire or the charcoal. When you get "that feeling" (the one when you know everything is right, your will is focused, you know it is certain, you know the feeling...) prepare to begin the physical aspect of the ritual. When the fire has become coals, or the charcoal is glowing happily, read aloud your writing, repeating it 3 times. As you read, or as you come to the end of each repetition, sprinkle a small handful (about a tablespoon) of the Moon Incense on the fire. You will want to be practiced at this for the best effect as well as safety, so make up a full recipe of it and accustom yourself to its nature prior to the rite.

Fold the paper and keep it near you for three days. Keep it under your pillow, mattress, or pinned to your night clothes (if you aren't sky/star clad) while you sleep. After three days, light another ritual fire, repeat the Circle of Power/Protection, reading and incense procedure and this time, burn the paper when you are done. OR you can keep the paper in a special spell box if you use this method. Many witches have special containers to keep finished workings in. These are usually decorative and personalized with engravings or painting on them that echo their contents. For example, a heart shaped heartwood box with runes and magickal symbols of love on it for this spell. Usually only similar spells are kept together, or each spell is kept in its own box.

This spell requires two blue candles and one candle to portray yourself, and sandalwood oil. Anoint candles with the oil and visualize yourself being in a trance like state. Place blue candles on either side of the chosen candle, light the blue candles and say unto thyself:

Now sit in a comfortable position and become aware of your breathing patterns. Inhale deeply, exhale deeply, listen to the rhythm of your body and breathing motions. Hold each colour for a count of five. Watch as it fades into each colour, still focusing on third eye. Watch your breath and see your chest rise and fall with the air (eyes still closed) and watch your breath as it changes into waves. Now visualize a door on water. Visualize yourself going through the door and visiting with your spirit guide. Ask your questions. Trust the answers you receive. Walk out the door, watch the waves turn back into breathing patterns. A Brief History of Beltane

Beltane (AKA May Day) is one of the most important of the witch's sabbats, second only to Samhain (Halloween!) in both status and merriment. It is still celebrated as a spring festival in many places around the world but its ancient roots are Celtic, hailing from Co. Meath in Ireland. It is traditionally a fire festival due to the act of burning 9 different types of wood and then bringing the cattle out from the barns to pasture for the first time of the year, passing them through the pyres as they went. This ritual was to cleanse, heal and protect them which, it was believed, would improve their milk yield for that year. Beltane's meaning is actually fires of Bel (who was the Celtic deity worshipped.)

From these origins, the customs and rituals extended and widened, shifting the emphasis more to fertility. One of these traditions is probably the most iconic symbols of the day worldwide - the may pole. Ribbons of red and white are tied to a pole in the ground and weaved in and out to make particular patterns, usually by the young women of the community. This is a celebration of love and pleasure, helping (and hoping!) to increase fertility along the way.

The Wicca/Witch Sabbat of Beltane

To Wiccans and witches, this has become a very important time to honour the gifts we receive from the natural world around us. It is the beginning of the light half of the year and astronomically a cross quarter day between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. The spark and energy around us at this time of year, one which tends to dampen during the bleak, colder months, comes back to us. It is perfect for being harnessed for spell work and giving them new vigour .

How to Celebrate Beltane

One the first things you must do on Beltane morn is to wake up early and wash your face in the early dew. This was originally thought to give you beauty all year round. But it is an opportunity to really get close to nature and experience the simple joy and calm of being at one with it. Feel the coolness of the gentle breeze or absorb the warmth with the morning sun as it rises. Really experience the earth beneath your feet and breath in the vital air. Engross yourself in the moment!

To mark this fire festival, you can build a bonfire or have a fire of some kind going throughout the day. Many Wiccans, covens or worshippers carry out a fire vigil, starting on Beltane eve but if this is not possible you can always burn a candle to honour the day. In particular, silver candles represent fertility. However, some dedicated followers have even been know to build a small fire in their cauldron! Please, of course, don't leave it unattended if you do this and don't overdo the burning materials inside it. But nevertheless it is a heart warming sight.

But as well as a festival of fire, Beltane is seen as a festival of flowers. Baskets of flowers were made, either for decoration or even as part of a ritual or ceremony. Hawthorn is the flower of the day and legend has it that this is the only time of year that it is ok to bring it indoors without risking bringing bad luck upon yourself. It was usually worn by the May Queen, a young girl chosen to represent the day.

You can also use incense and herbs, either as part of your ritual or in your home (incense for if the bonfire is not practical). Associated with Beltane are - angelica, frankincense, hawthorn, lilac and rose.

However, your chief priority should not necessarily be how you celebrate but instead the feelings, awareness and connectivity with your surroundings that you experience. The meaning of this time of year may be less relevant to our daily lives than when the festival first began but the sense of harmony and even excitement can be cherished all the same.

The Fires of Tara:
Beltane kicks off the merry month of May, and has a long history. This fire festival is celebrated on May 1 with bonfires, Maypoles, dancing, and lots of good old fashioned sexual energy. The Celts honored the fertility of the gods with gifts and offerings, sometimes including animal or human sacrifice. Cattle were driven through the smoke of the balefires, and blessed with health and fertility for the coming year. In Ireland, the fires of Tara were the first ones lit every year at Beltane, and all other fires were lit with a flame from Tara.

Roman Influences:
The Romans, always known for celebrating holidays in a big way, spent the first day of May paying tribute to their Lares, the gods of their household. They also celebrated the Floralia, or festival of flowers, which consisted of three days of unbridled sexual activity. Participants wore flowers in their hair (much like May Day celebrants later on), and there were plays, songs, and dances. At the end of the festivities, animals were set loose inside the Circus Maximus, and beans were scattered around to ensure fertility. The fire festival of Bona Dea was also celebrated on May 2nd.

A Pagan Martyr:
May 6 is the day of Eyvind Kelve in Norse celebrations. Eyvind Kelve was a pagan martyr who was tortured and drowned on the orders of King Olaf Tryggvason for refusing to give up his pagan beliefs. A week later, Norwegians celebrate the Festival of the Midnight Sun, which pays tribute to the Norse sun goddess. This festival marks the beginning of ten straight weeks without darkness.

The Greeks and Plynteria:
Also in May, the Greeks celebrated the Plynteria in honor of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle, and the patroness of the city of Athens (which was named after her). The Plynteria includes the ritual cleansing of Athena’s statue, along with feasting and prayers in the Parthenon. On the 24th, homage is paid to the Greek moon-goddess Artemis (goddess of the hunt and of wild animals). Artemis is a lunar goddess, equivalent to the Roman moon-goddess Diana – she is also identified with Luna, and Hecate.

The Green Man Emerges:
A number of pre-Christian figures are associated with the month of May, and subsequently Beltane. The entity known as the Green Man, strongly related to Cernunnos, is often found in the legends and lore of the British Isles, and is a masculine face covered in leaves and shrubbery. In some parts of England, a Green Man is carried through town in a wicker cage as the townsfolk welcome the beginning of summer. Impressions of the Green Man’s face can be found in the ornamentation of many of Europe’s older cathedrals, despite edicts from local bishops forbidding stonemasons from including such pagan imagery.

Jack-in-the-Green:
A related character is Jack-in-the-Green, a spirit of the greenwood. References to Jack appear in British literature back as far as the late sixteenth century. Sir James Frazer associates the figure with mummers and the celebration of the life force of trees. Jack-in-the-Green was seen even in the Victorian era, when he was associated with soot-faced chimney sweeps. At this time, Jack was framed in a structure of wicker and covered with leaves, and surrounded by Morris dancers. Some scholars suggest that Jack may have been a ancestor to the legend of Robin Hood.

Ancient Symbols, Modern Rites:
Today's Pagans and Wiccans celebrate Beltane much like their ancestors did. A Beltane ritual usually involves lots of fertility symbols, including the obviously-phallic Maypole dance. The Maypole is a tall pole decorated with flowers and hanging ribbons, which are woven into intricate pattern by a group of dancers. Weaving in and out, the ribbons are eventually knotted together by the time the dancers reach the end.

In some Wiccan traditions, Beltane is a day in which the May Queen and the Queen of Winter battle one another for supremacy. In this rite, borrowed from practices on the Isle of Man, each queen has a band of supporters. On the morning of May 1, the two companies battle it out, ultimately trying to win victory for their queen. If the May Queen is captured by her enemies, she must be ransomed before her followers can get her back.

There are some who believe Beltane is a time for the faeries -- the appearance of flowers around this time of year heralds the beginning of summer and shows us that the fae are hard at work. In early folklore, to enter the realm of faeries is a dangerous step -- and yet the more helpful deeds of the fae should always be acknowledged and appreciated. If you believe in faeries, Beltane is a good time to leave out food and other treats for them in your garden or yard.

For many contemporary Pagans, Beltane is a time for planting and sowing of seeds -- again, the fertility theme appears. The buds and flowers of early May bring to mind the endless cycle of birth, growth, death and rebirth that we see in the earth. Certain trees are associated with May Day, such as the Ash, Oak and Hawthorn. In Norse legend, the god Odin hung from an Ash tree for nine days, and it later became known as the World Tree, Yggdrasil.

Beltane Project: Make a Faerie Chair

Found this really cool project for Beltane and thought I would pass it along. I plan on doing this myself. I am going to face it East so I can do my morning meditations from it. Blessings.

Some people believe that Faeries inhabit their flower gardens. If you think you've got friendly Fae out there, this craft project is a great way to get kids into gardening at the beginning of spring. You'll need the following items:

•An old wooden chair
•Some primer paint
•Exterior paint in your favorite Faerie color(s)
•Polyeurethane or sealant
•Seeds for a climbing flower, such as morning glory or clematis
•A sunny spot in your garden
To make this cute outdoor project, start by applying a coat of primer paint to the chair. It's really easiest if this is in white or another light color. Next, apply a coat of your favorite Fae-attracting color -- pastels look very pretty, such as lavenders or sunny yellows. Decorate the chair with designs in acrylic paints if you like. Once the paint has dried, apply a coat or two of polyeurethane to protect the chair from the elements.

Find a sunny spot in your garden, and loosen the soil a bit. Place the chair where you want it, but be sure that it's the right spot, because it's going to become a permanent fixture. Once the chair is in place, plant seeds around the base of the chair, just a few inches away from the legs.

Water the soil each day, and as your climbing plants appear, twine the vines up through the legs of the chair and around it. Pretty soon, you'll have a chair covered with leafy greens and bright flowers. It's the perfect place for your kids to spot a Faerie!

A Maypole Ritual

Beltane is a yearly event that is celebrated by Wiccans to symbolize union and balance in the world. It is usually held in May and is a celebration of fertility and new life for the coming year. The word itself means "shining fire". This is one of the festivals that are held during day time.

For thousands of years, people have celebrated this ritual all over northern Europe and probably in lands where pagans gathered. Spring flowers are collected, and people walk through the village streets decorating houses with flowers. Most of the people in the homes would leave food outside for the "trick or treat" version of Beltane.

This celebration is all about sowing seeds and creating new life.One of the most important traditions on this holiday is that of the Maypole. Young men would choose a fir tree and fashion a pole for this occasion. This pole would be placed in the center of the village and closely guarded until the day of the celebration.

1. Choose an area for the gathering and cleanse it with a besom

2. Cast the circle in order to create a "safe space" where unwanted, unwelcome spirits cannot enter.

3. Invoke the East, South, West and North with proper ritual chanting so that they help us with their powers and energies.

4. Invite the Goddess to join us, witness our ritual and bless us. The Goddess represents the feminine aspect of fertility, the vagina (Earth)

5. Invite the God (or Gods) to bless and consecrate the pole which is the male aspect of fertility, representing the phallus which produces the seed.
6. A hole is prepared and consecrate with some oil and wine. Chant: Earth Mother, may this offering prepare you to receive this symbol of your consort, our Lord"

7. The men walk, chanting, holding the Maypole, going two steps forward and one backward, making grunting noise. The ladies present come forward and rub oil on the pole while making a wish for themselves and their future. They may also tie ribbons on the pole. The color of the ribbons also may signify their dreams for the future.

8. With a lot of flourish, chanting and effort, the heavy pole is thrust into the earth to encourage new life and the blossoming of our dreams.

9. Now that the seed has been spilled, people start dancing and the Beltane fire is lit. People dance around the fire or jump over the fire to purify them.

10. After the ritual, the deities are thanked and dismissed. Now the guardians or watchtowers are thanked for their guidance and sent off to their realms.

11. The circle is opened and people return home dreaming of abundance and prosperity for the coming year.

One of the main activities of the festival is the lighting of the bonfire. Sometimes after the community Beltane bonfire is lit, individuals re-light their own home hearth fires from the Beltane Bonfire. These bonfires are used to purify the cattle by driving them through (or between two) bonfires. Juniper boughs are thrown into the bonfire to add to the smoke and purification of people and cattle.

Trimming Away the Things We Don't Need Anymore.

So about a week ago I cut my hair and when I got done I thought I could do something with these hair clippings but what.....? So a day or so later it came to me that the hair clippings represented things in my life I no longer had a use for or needed. So I came up with this plan for after the full moon.

I took my favorite incense, clove. A white candle and a black candle. And the hair clippings. I light the incense and the candles. Called the quarters and asked for Hecate's help and guidance in this spell. I then focused all my intentions and thoughts on the hair clippings, putting all my negative thoughts and feelings into those hair clippings. All of my worries, my fears and frustrations. After what felt like an appropriate time and my mind felt at ease. I took the clippings down to the river and released them. Letting them float away.

Simple Spell to Draw in Elemental Energy

Casting Instructions:

On your piece of paper write down which element you wish to draw into your life. IE: Water, Fire, Earth, or Air. I think it would be helpful to also write down which aspect of the element you wish to use/draw in. Light candle and set paper on fire. Burn in fire safe bowl/cauldron. If windy take outside and allow ashes to blow away. If near a river or stream place in the water and let them be carried away. If neither is possible rinse down the drain. I don't like the symbolism of using the lavatory to flush them so I would just put them down the drain. Another way would be to bury them. Blessings

The "Elements" within magickal symbolism are the basic components of all that exists. These four Elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water - are at the same time visible and invisible, physical and spiritu

It is unwise to view the four Elements in purely physical terms. Earth, for example, refers not only to the planet on which we exist, but also to the phenomenon of Earthiness, of foundation and stability. Similarly, Fire is much more than flame.

Since this is the magick of nature, using natural powers, tools and symbols, it is important to understand these powers. One of the ways this can be achieved is through the study of the Elements.

The Elemental system was devised and refined in the Renaissance, but its roots stretch farther back into history. It can be viewed as nothing more than a convenient system of orginization for the various types of magick. Then again, it may be viewed as a very real system of powers which can be called upon to aid spells and rituals. How you view them is up to you.

The following discussions deal with the symbolism of and types of magick related to the Elements. All of the magick contained within this book falls under the rulership of one (or more) of the Elements. This is true, too, of all that exists. An understanding of them will aid your magickal work immensely.

Though the Elements are described as "masculine" or "feminine", this should no be viewed in a sexist way. This, like all magickal systems, is symbolic - it describes the basic attributes of the Elements in terms easily understandable. It doesn't mean that it is more masculine to perform Fire magick, or more appropriate for women to use Water magick. It's simply a system of symbols.

EARTH
This is the Element we are closest to home with, sinse it is our home. Earth doesn't necessarily represent the physical Earth, but that part of it which is stable, solid, dependable.

Earth is the foundation of the Elements, the base. It is in this realm that most of us live a good part of our lives. When we walk, sit, stand, crawl, eat, sleep, work our jobs, tend our plants, balance our checkbooks or taste salt we are working within the Element of Earth.

Earth is the realm of abundance, prosperity, and wealth. While it is the most physical of the Elements this is not negative, for it is upon Earth that the other three rest. Without Earth, life as we know it could not exist.

In magickal workings Earth "rules" all spells and rituals involving business, money, employment, prosperity in all its forms, stability, fertility and so on.

A ritual of this Element could be as simple as burying an object representative of your need in a plot of virgin ground, walking over miles of countryside visualizing your need, or drawing images in dirt.

Earth is a feminine Element. It is nurturing, moist, fruitful, and it is these qualities which make it feminine. Such attributes have impelled countless civilizations to envision the Earth as a great Mother Goddess, the all-fertile Creatress of nature.

Earth rules the Northern point of the compass, because that is the place of greatest darkness and of winter. Its colour is the green of the fields and plants.

It governs stone, image, tree and knot magick.

AIR
Air is the Element of the intellect, it is the realm of thought, which is the first step toward creation.

Magickally speaking, Air is the clear, uncluttered, pure visualization which is a powerful tool for change. It is also movement, the impetus that sends the visualization out toward manifestation.

It rules spells and rituals involving travel, instruction, freedom, obtaining knowledge, discovering lost items, uncovering lies, and so on.

It can also be used to develope the psychic faculties.

Spells involving Air usually include the act of placing an object in the Air or dropping something off the side of a mountain or other high place so that the object actually connects physically with the Element.

Air is a masculine Element, being dry, expansive, and active. It is the Element that excells in places of learning, and which is at work while we theorize, think, and ponder.

Air rules the East because this is the direction of the greatest light, and the light of wisdom and consciousness. Its colour is yellow, the yellow of the Sun and of the sky at dawn, and its season is spring.

Air governs the magick of the four winds, most divinations, concentration and visualization magick.

FIRE
Fire is the Element of change, will and passion. In a sense it contains within it all forms of magick, sinse magick is a process of change.

Fire magick can be frightening. The results manifest quickly and spectacularly. It is not an Element for the faint-hearted. However, it is most primal and for this reason is much used.

This is the realm of sexuality and passion. It is not only the "Sacred Fire" of sex, it is also the spark of divinity which shines within us and in all living things. It is at once the most physical and spiritual of the Elements.

Its magickal rituals usually involve energy, authority, sex, healing, destruction (of negative habits, disease), purification, evolution, and so on.
A ritual of Fire usually involves the fuming, burning or smouldering of an image, herb, or other flammable object, or the use of candles or small blazes.

Its magick is usually practiced near the hearth, or beside fires lit in wilderness clearings, or beside the flame of a single candle.

Fire is masculine. It rules the South, the place of greatest heat, the colour red, and the season of summer.

All candle magick comes under Fire's powers.

Water is the Element of purification, the subconscious mind, love and the emotions.

Just as Water is fluid, constantly changing, flowing from one level to another, so too are our emotions in a constant state of flux.

Spell to Absorb Magickal Energy from Objects

Place the palm of your non-writting hand against the object whilst keeping the other hand clenched in a fist. Simply visualise the energy of the object flowing into you and into your clenched fist. Once the object is drained completely clench both fists and push the magick into your heart where it can be stored for a short period of time. This should make your heart feel warmer just after casting and probably make you feel light headed so be careful.

Xylomancy: Tree Divination

Okay have searched the internet from here to oh, some where over there, and could not find a source for how to actually do xylomancy. It would appear to be a very free flowing, free association thing. As is most divination techniques. What I got from my research is this, if you are walking along and some branches on a tree or on the ground remind you of a rune....go with it. If the branches in a tree make a pattern that speaks to you, use it. If a certain type of tree calls out to you look up what it means. Maybe all of these sources will come through on the same walk, use them. I know that sometimes when I have been near a tree or trees I could literally hear them speaking to me, whispering on the wind. Another hint, sometimes you just know there are fairies living in a particular tree, leave them a gift. Something shinny preferably. If I feel particularly drawn to a tree I will usually leave a few pennies by it. I always have pennies in my pocket when I go for a walk in the woods for just this purpose.
